Three steps, nine hours.

Heat it
A piece of the liner is held at boiling point for seven hours, once in water, which stands in for watery foods, and once in hexane, which stands in for fatty and oily foods.

Measure what comes out
SGS weighs what the silicone gives off into each liquid. The FDA sets a limit for each one, and the result has to be under it.
03
Do it again
The same piece goes back in for two more hours. The amount has to keep falling. In the final water test, nothing was detected at all.

Is the silicone BPA free?
Yes. BPA is found in some hard plastics, such as polycarbonate. Silicone is a different material and doesn't contain it.
Does this cover every iStock Kitchen product?
The test was run on one AirFlow Pro™ liner. Every silicone product we make uses the same silicone.

Why a US standard?
US FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 is the most widely used test for silicone that touches food, and the one most manufacturers and retailers ask for. It measures the thing that matters: how much comes out of the material when it's heated.
